Visiting Your School: A Breakdown for Teachers

At this time have developed two levels of curriculum which includes grades 3-5 and grades 9-12. We are working on developing lessons plans for grades K-2 and 6-8. We appreciate your patience!

Please reach us at pwpnonprofit@plantedwithpurpose.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • Our program is intended to be taught as a three lesson series, each focusing on different topics on sustainability and sustainable food systems.
  •  We have curated the lesson plans to fit the intended age groups.
  • We have built the series to be taught on one day a week across a three-week span, i.e., every Friday for three weeks in a row. However, if necessary we can accommodate to do three lessons in one week. We are flexible and are willing to to work with teacher and class schedules.
  • Each lesson is roughly one hour long and features interactive activities and discussions to help students learn. Students will be encouraged to share and interact with their classmates throughout each lesson.

                                      An Inside Look:

  • Lesson 1: Planting the Seed!
    • This lesson is meant to educate students on the importance of food in our lives, this is intended to get them excited about talking about food and to get wheels turning on why it matters.  During lesson one the idea of sustainability is introduced.
    • Features a pre-assessment quiz intended to gauge a student’s understanding of these topics. A post-assessment is included at the end of Lesson 3 which helps show what students have learned throughout this series.
  • Lesson 2: Thoughtful Growing
    • In this lesson, students will learn more about sustainability by explaining it in the context of thoughtfulness.
    • Activities include an herb tasting (from a hydroponic garden), “green” book reading, and activity stations.
  • Lesson 3: Experiment Day
    • This lesson serves as a final recap of the topics we covered throughout this series.
    • We do a post assessment, asking the same questions we asked during lesson to measure learning.
    • Includes a creative activity that allows students to create their own “dirt babies”! These are fun plants that show students how plants grow.

For our high school curriculum we have constructed a single, one hour lesson plan. Topics that are covered include:

  • Challenges with Global Food Production
  • Climate Change
  • Soil Degradation and Habitat Loss
  • A deeper dive into sustainability
  • Sustainable Agriculture
  • Conventional/Industrial Farming vs. Sustainable Farming
  • Food Security
  • And more!
